Vine: Palestine score historic first Asian Cup goal in 5-1 defeat to Jordan

History made by Jaka Hbaisha

Ray Wilkins’ side had a comfortable win to keep their Asian Cup hopes alive

The story of Palestine’s qualification for the Asian Cup warmed our hearts so we have been keeping a beady eye on how the team have been getting on in Australia.

Easily the rank outsiders in the tournament, they suffered a 4-0 defeat in their first game to World Cup team Japan but we had high hopes that they could do much better against Jordan, managed by Ray Wilkins.

Sadly, it wasn’t to be as Hamza Al Dardour scored four goals to propel Jordan into a 5-0 lead as the final whistle approached. But then Jaka Hbaisha popped up to score Palestine’s first goal in major tournament in the 85th minute.

It may only have been a consolation but it was an historic goal for Palestine.

The defeat means that Palestine are out but they have one more game, against Iraq, on Tuesday.
