John from Kildare almost blew it for everyone in the audience

Former Westlife melody-maker Nicky Byrne momentarily distracted the nation from tearing strips off the Late Late Show’s new, Americana set.

Byrne, who briefly enjoyed a career as a goalkeeper with Leeds United and Cobh Ramblers, was tasked with stopping three penalties from Kildare native, John. Swank holidays were on offer to the studio audience if the denim-clad Lilywhite could find the net three times from six yards out.

Byrne got off to an absolute flyer. He saved the first attempt before going all David de Gea with pot-shot number two:

Luckily for all involved, Byrne eased off the competitive throttle, the booty was secured and John was not forced to sleep in the spare bedroom of his Kildare abode.

Inside word from Montrose is that a Liverpool scout was spotted, furiously scribbling on an RTE notepad, in Row J.
