Vine: Liverpool awarded penalty after refereeing howler

Wes Morgan gets the ball in the face, and concedes a very dodgy penalty

Neil Treacy

Wes Morgan is clearly all out of luck.

Not only did the Leicester defender get a Raheem Sterling cross straight into his snoz, referee Mike Jones decided that he had committed a handball, and awarded Liverpool a penalty.

Although Morgan had his hands in the now infamous “unnatural position”, the ball doesn’t seem to hit either of them, but rather smacks him in the face.

2015 may only be a few hours old, but we already have a contender for worst penalty decision of the year.

Steven Gerrard buried the penalty, as he does, and Liverpool lead 1-0.

Jones won’t want to see this one again…

And they made it 2-0 after another penalty. Whether Danny Simpson meant it or not is up for debate, but at least this one actually hit his hand.

Liverpool ran out of luck in the second half though. David Nugent pulled a goal back with a stunning effort in the 59th minute, before Jefferey Schlupp levelled a minute later. The game remians 2-2.
