Ah here, cop yourself on young man
If this red card is not rescinded then we’re giving up altogether in terms of what players are getting away with on the field. There’s simulation and then there is downright cheating and that’s the only way to describe what happened this afternoon as Wolves faced Watford in the Championship.
Wolves’ Bakary Sako received a straight red card for an incident involving Fernando Forestieri in the 2-2 draw at Molineux, but he will definitely have a strong case to appeal. The winger was punished after being pushed in the chest by his opponent and barely reacting to the aggression. Instead of Sako being the injured party the Watford player threw himself to the ground clutching his face after slight contact from Sako.
Wolves boss Kenny Jackett couldn’t believe his player was sent off,
‘Forestieri has thrown himself to the floor and the referee sent off Sako. But I didn’t think it was red, I didn’t think he raised his hands. I was close to the incident and also I have seen it on the video. You are looking for raised hands but it is just not the case. I wouldn’t even say it was a coming together. Forestieri has thrown himself to the floor, there is no contact, there is no raised arm, there is no intent there and we will certainly appeal. I think that is poor for a fellow professional.
Poor doesn’t even come into it. We wouldn’t have blamed Sako for going over and giving the Argentine a good shooing for his play-acting.
We’re with Jeff Stelling in our horror at this.
