Vine: Defender loses his mind and inexplicably scores own goal under absolutely no pressure

What an absolute mare

Ben Kiely

If you didn’t know any better, you’d swear that this game was a fix.

Guanacasteca’s Michael Duran scored one of the oddest own goals in the history of the beautiful game against Puntarenas on Sunday.

Puntarenas ran out 3-1 winners over Guanacasteca in the Costa Rican second division clash, which is a surprisingly low margin, considering Duran seemed to forget what team he was playing for mid-match.

A Puntarenas player smashed the ball off the crossbar and it came bobbling out to Duran in the box. Duran had acres of space and a ludicrous amount of time to deal with the situation, given the fact that he was surrounded by five of his team-mates and there were no opposing players in sight.

Rather than hoof the ball clear or try to play it out of danger, what Duran did next was nothing short of spectacular. He controlled the loose ball beautifully with his chest, tee’d it up and looped a header over the keeper.
