Head kicks belong in the Octagon, not on the football pitch.
It defies logic that head-kicking an opposition player only warrants a yellow card in the Brazilian league.
On Sunday night, Vasco da Gama drew 0-0 with Flamengo, however the visitors can count their blessing that they finished the game with 11 men still on the pitch.
In an unbelievable passage of play, Flamengo’s Jonas kicked Gilberto of Vasco da Gama in the head when challenging for a high ball. Unsurprisingly, Gilberto crumpled to the ground clutching his head in agony after eating the huge kick.
Despite nearly taking his head clean off, the referee inexplicably decided that the foul only deserved a yellow card. Presumably he told the player “Listen, any more head-kicks, spinning back-fists or kimuras and I’m going to have to send you off, mate. Consider this a warning.”
Madness.
