The Champions League quarter-finals draw threw up some tasty fixtures; Real Madrid will play Juventus, Barcelona will face Roma, but most exciting of all is the all-Premier League clash between Manchester City and Liverpool.
Liverpool are the only team to have taken three points off the champions-elect in the Premier League this season, which will give them a huge confidence boost going into the tie.
It’s a tie that neutrals are eagerly anticipating, given the amount of talent on the pitch, but City and Liverpool fans will probably be too nervous to enjoy. The same goes for Manchester United fans. Considering United’s fierce rivalries with both sides, it’ll be impossible for their fans to pick a side in this one.
Kompany believes that City will have the backing of United fans though, which might be a tad optimistic.
“It is the only thing people talk about in Manchester right now,” Kompany told Sky Sports from the Belgium camp ahead of next week’s friendly against Saudi Arabia.
“The Champions League is obviously massive, somehow I feel like we do get a little bit of support from the United fans for that fixture.
“But other than that the game against United is the biggest thing to talk about but we still have to play Everton [on the weekend before the first Liverpool tie].”
United fans may disagree. But they will certainly be hoping that City put more of their focus into the Liverpool tie, with the first leg falling just three days before the Manchester derby.
