This summer we may have to hate Vincent Kompany.
But it will be only for 90 minutes when he is playing Ireland, as the Belgian is one of the few decent and likeable football players left in the game.
The centre-half captained Manchester City to the League Cup success over Liverpool on Sunday afternoon at Wembley.
Kompany did not have to step up to take one, as Yaya Toure’s penalty was enough to secure a 3-1 success on spot kicks.
But ever the gentleman, and ever the classy pro that he is, instead of rushing to Cup hero Willy Caballero or Yaya, Kompany walked over to the Liverpool players to console them after losing out on a first trophy since 2012.
