Most people who watched television in Ireland on Sunday tuned into the match.
RTE have released their viewing figures for Ireland’s heartbreaking Euro 2016 round of 16 exit against France and, of course, they’re astonishingly high.
Viewership of RTE 2’s coverage of the match averaged at 1.26 million viewers and peaked at 1.34m as the game drew to a close. A whopping 83% of those watching television in the Republic of Ireland were watching the match.
To add to this, 130,300 live streams were hosted on RTE Player while the live text commentary on RTE.ie drew in 232,500 page impressions.
There are reports that some people actually hung around for TV3’s coverage of Hungary v Belgium which kicked off at 8pm on Sunday. Early estimations are that somewhere between 1 and one million people switched over to the channel for the game.
The rest, of course, were watching the Foster and Allen Show on TG4.
