Robbie Keane’s goal for LA Galaxy at the weekend wasn’t quite a golazo, but it was certainly better than your average effort.
Keano doubled his tally for this year’s MLS campaign with a well-worked goal against Houston Dynamo on Saturday. The Irish striker picked the ball up from inside his own half, nutmegged a defender to cut inside the box and applied the finish to cap off a great run.
When you see the description of the goal written down like that, it makes it sound like an absolute wondergoal. However, when you take into consideration the defensive frailties of the opposition and the fact that his run was under absolutely no pressure for most of his run, it isn’t really deserving of the golazo tag.
This decent score falls somewhere in the twilight zone between wondergoal and better than average. It’s a little bit from column A and a little bit from column B.
