Whoever said it couldn’t be done, didn’t tell Carl Haslam of AFC Mansfield. The player managed to achieve what was thought to be impossible. Clean through on goal, from one yard out, under minimal pressure, he managed to fire the ball wide.
Haslam capitalised on a woeful error from the goalkeeper to pick the ball up inside the opposition’s penalty area. Not trusting his aim from a relatively short distance, the fleet-footed player artfully dodged a flying challenge from a defender to find himself within inches of the goal.
From a yard out, with all the time in the world, Haslem did the unthinkable and somehow toe-poked the ball well wide of the goal. He will find little solace in the knowledge that the miss was so terrible, it was actually quite impressive.
