When you’ve been dumped out of the FA Cup, a mid-season retreat generally seems to be the norm for Premier League clubs.
Southampton do things differently though.
Instead of warm-weather training in Portugal, or a quick getaway to Abu Dhabi or Dubai, Ronald Koeman took his players away from the cold spring conditions of the south coast to the even colder spring conditions of the Swiss Alps.
A sideways move, but an understandable one. A bit of team bonding will do you the world of good this time of the year.
What isn’t understandable, however, is getting your team – many of whom are probably ice-skating for the first time – to a rink to try their hands at hockey.
Luckily, it seems the squad got through the routine unscathed, and it resulted in some slapstick gold.
And if this tweet from Saints boss Ronald Koeman is anything to go by, the players will be skiing this afternoon, because ice-hockey isn’t dangerous enough mid-way through the season.
Adjust your fantasy team accordingly.
