So this is all a bit mad
You can sort of understand if football fans from rival clubs come across each other in the street, with a few beers on board, that there might be one or two idiots that start trouble.
It happens, and that’s why usually you see all types of security precautions when two city rivals clash in a local derby.
But we imagine the NYPD was more than a little surprised that things got quite heated before last night’s New York derby between New York City and Red Bulls.
The game would hardly be classed on the same rivalry as a Merseyside or Glasgow cross-city matches because one of the clubs, New York City, only exists since last year.
That rather important fact you’d think would be hardly enough time for a festering sense of naked hatred to develop between rival supporters.
But we stand corrected in our orthopaedic shoes today after these scenes last night.
It seems that rival ‘sawker’ fans in the Big Apple really do not get along after fans clashed outside a gastro pub of all places before last night’s game.

There was no reports of trouble afterwards however as Red Bull won 2-0.
