For many of today’s football fans, the likes of Carlo Ancelotti, Jurgen Klinsmann and even Diego Simeone are only known to them as managers. Their playing days were over long before they started watching football but this superb video, tweeted by the great James Dart today, gives you some idea of just how good they were.
It is the complete list of nominees for the Serie A goal of the year from the 1990-91 season. Fresh from Italia ’90, football in Italy was at its peak in terms of star power and this compilation shows just how loaded the division was.
The names involved here, including the likes of Roberto Mancini, Gianluca Vialli and Rudi Voller as well as those listed above are impressive enough but the quality of the goals is simply superb.
Sadly, due to the era, most only have one camera angle but rasping volleys from all angles seems to have been the preferred method of goal scoring that season.
