Goosebumps.
As you know, this weekend we celebrate the centenary of the most significant uprising in our country’s history, the 1916 Easter Rising.
The FAI have done quite a bit to commemorate the events surrounding the events that happened 100 years ago for the Good Friday friendly against Switerland in the Aviva stadium, from changing the team’s crest to honouring Easter Rising hero Oscar Traynor in the official match programme.
Just before kick-off, there was another special tribute to the Rising. After the Swiss national anthem was finished, a group of local schoolchildren read out an excerpt from the Proclamation of the Irish Republic on the pitch, a century after Padraig Pearse read it aloud outside the GPO.
