This man has a fundamental misunderstanding of how goalkeeping works
Moroka Swallows goalkeeper Greg Etafia did not cover himself in glory last night. His side were on the receiving end of a 4-1 hammering courtesy of Mamelodi Sundowns and the fourth goal he conceded truly was one of the most spectacular goalkeeping blunders of the year so far.
Swallows midfielder Teko Modise was lining up a free-kick from distance when he decided to have a crack at goal from 25-yards out.
Fleet-footed keeper Etafia showed cat-like reflexes to get over tot he far post and cover the shot, but failed miserably at the crucial stage of stopping it from going in.
The weak effort bounced off the turf and into the net as the shot-stopper man between the posts stood with gormless expression on his face with his hands slumped at his sides.
You could see the cogs turning inside his mind as desperately tried to work out why he didn’t just use his hands to make the save.
