Video: Sad news as Israeli midfielder forced to retire aged 25 one year after ‘worst tackle ever’

Awful news

Ben Kiely

It’s always a shame to see a professional athlete retire because of injury, but it’s infuriating when a career is ended by an intentional foul.

Bnei Yehuda midfielder Rafi Dahan has been forced to call quits on his playing career this week as a direct result of of a horror challenge that happened a year ago.

Dahan was forced to retire almost exactly one year to the day he had his leg broken by an horrendous two-footed lunge from Maccabi Haifa defender Ruben Rayos, a Spanish player who was once on the books of Barcelona.

Middle East journalist Raphael Gellar revealed the dreadful news on Twitter yesterday.

Dahan had to postpone his wedding because of his injuries resulting from the incident and has understandably harboured a grudge against Rayos. He admitted that he will probably never forgive the Spaniard for what he did to his leg.

It was a crime. He wanted to finish my career. I’ll never forget him for what he’s done.

To see the horror tackle that ended Dahan’s career, check out the video embedded below. Be warned though, the egregious challenge makes for a tough watch.
