Finally, Phil Coulter has weighed into the Jack Grealish saga.
But what a contribution from the Derry man.
The Irish music legend was back in his home town on Saturday night for a star-studded fundraising dinner for Derry City record-breaking striker, Mark Farren.
In a room full of footballing icons including Northern Ireland manager, Michael O’Neill, and ex team mates of Farren’s like Paddy McCourt and James McClean, Phil Coulter provided fantastic entertainment for the packed event at the Everglades Hotel in the north west city.
And, with his second song, Coulter told a story of how he was sharing adjoining rooms with Martin O’Neill in the Derry hotel and that the Republic boss was under visible stress trying to convince Aston Villa’s starlet, Jack Grealish, to commit to Ireland (we assume he embellished a little).
So he penned his own lyrics to ‘Hit The Road Jack’ as a not so gentle nudge to Grealish to decide once and for all: ‘Are you a f**king Paddy, or are you not?’
Good man, Phil!
