Michael Owen thinks certain Premier League defenders receive way too much credit.
The former Liverpool striker appeared on Fletch and Sav Saturday morning to discuss all the hot topics in the Premier League.
When the discussion switched to the role of defenders in the English top flight, Owen claimed that centre backs such as Chris Smalling and John Terry don’t really deserve the “rave reviews” they receive.
Owen explained that the grunt work done by defensive midfielders such as Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin. He even went as far to say that even he, a former striker approaching his mid-60s (approx), could play centre back for Manchester United with that midfield in front of him.
