Ireland’s women might not have been swept aside with relative ease by the world champion US side last night, but Megan Campbell’s setpieces at least gave them something to think about.
The Drogheda native’s throw-ins are reminiscent of the days when Rory Delap’s sideline rockets were often the most dangerous weapons in Ireland or Stoke’s arsenals, and the 22-year-old full-back gave US goalkeeper Hope Solo plenty to think about on a couple of occasions.
Solo was happy to see that effort land in the side netting, but the World Cup winner looked relieved to dispatch the ball over the bar when Campbell later directed the ball goalbound.
