Do something about it

“If you’ve covered these stats and you think you’re up to it, I’ll tell you what to do: run an extra half mile.”

What Aston Villa would give to have Martin O’Neill back at the helm.

Their downfall started when Randy Lerner let the Derry man leave Birmingham and, planted rock bottom in near-record fashion this season, that deterioration is almost complete.

Martin O’Neill’s advice: do something about it.

A man renowned for his man management skills and ability to motivate players to new levels kept his pep talk for lowly Villa really simple: “Do something that you haven’t done before.”

Having won two European Cups under the legendary Brian Clough, he’s seen and heard and imparted enough wisdom that his words now command automatic respect.

And this is just a little gem from his time on BT Sport on Saturday morning.
