The scars of battle.
The wait for a team to retain the Champions League crown goes on after a famous night in Madrid.
Barcelona’s reign as European champions has been ended by their La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid, after two goals from Antoine Griezmann knocked out the 2015 champions 3-2 on aggregate.
Griezmann struck in the first half to pile the pressure on Luis Enrique’s side, whose famed attacking trio of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar failed to sparkle yet again.
However, it wasn’t from the lack of trying by the Uruguayan, who threw a filthy elbow in the face of Diego Godin in an effort to score from a corner.
Suarez elbow on countryman Godín. Not sure what commentators talking about. Doesn't look malicious to me. #AtletiFCB pic.twitter.com/UBGznT1VLK

Godin felt the full force of the elbow, but it will probably be better for the semi-final. Or at least we hope so.

Even Ireland’s Sean Cronin, a man used to rough and tumble, wasn’t happy with the ex-Liverpool striker.
Suarez would elbow his own granny in the chops to get a score, never mind his fellow countryman 👍👍
