The fire evident in his pre-Christmas press conference has been replaced by an air of resignation.
And, seemingly, a resignation is in the air.
Louis van Gaal could not hide id dejection after his Manchester United side were convincingly beaten 2-0 by Stoke – their first St Stephen’s Day defeat in 13 years.
In Spain it is being reported that Jose Mourinho has agreed to join United and, judging by his post-match comments, Van Gaal might be ready to jump before he is pushed.
“It is not always like that, that the club has to fire or sack me. Sometimes I do it by myself.
“But I am the one who wants to speak first with the board of Manchester United or my staff or my players, but not with you [the media]. I don’t think that is the secret.”
Louis van Gaal tells a press conference he will speak to Ed Woodward about his future. https://t.co/ULqH4b4yvq
