Video: Louis van Gaal has been going on about Manchester United’s pre-season tour… again

The summer of 2014 will live long in one man's memory

Patrick McCarry

Do you remember Manchester United’s amazing pre-season of 2014? No? Well, let Louis van Gaal refresh your memory.

The United boss was gabbing with the media, today, ahead of his team’s Premier League away day with Swansea.

The Swans were the side that stuck a hob-nail boot into United’s balloon, at Old Trafford, in their league opener. Prior to that, as van Gaal remind us all today, United had returned from the USA after winning five games on pre-season.

‘We came from the United States and had won everything so that [2-1 loss] was a big shock. After that, we lost a lot of points despite being the better team because we could not score, enough, at that time.’

Now, in the final dregs of February and with a side tipping away nicely, the Dutchman feels his players are finally picking up what he is putting down. ‘I believe that every player here knows the philosophy of me and my staff. They want to follow that philosophy.

‘The team spirit is unbelievable and the confidence is the same as the beginning, because we won everything in the United States against big clubs.’

‘Now, as you know, If you see the top scorers in the last 15 or 20 games of the Premier League, we are the best time in the league.’
