Mateo Kovacic’s stock just went up over the weekend.
The Inter Milan midfielder fired home a beauty to send Croatia 2-0 up in their international friendly against minnows Gibraltar on Sunday afternoon.
Kovacic, who’s been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool, produced a stunning improvised effort to lob the keeper from close range.
With the ball dropping slightly behind him and the goalkeeper bearing down, the 21-year-old utilised the flying backheel technique to send the ball sailing into the net.
What makes it even better is that it was the youngster’s first goal for his country. There are certainly worse ways to open your international goalscoring account.
