Not a bad way to get picked up from school.
Young Jack O’Dea had no idea what was going on when his dad, Sean, collected him on Wednesday.
The six-year-old Rathcoffey NS student finished up for the day in his Kildare school only to find out he was heading straight for the airport to make a midweek Liverpool game at Anfield.
The Clane GAA man had never been over to see his beloved Liverpool before so he hadn’t a notion about what was happening when his dad was peppering him with Liverpool gear in the back of the car.
Eventually, he was told he was heading over for the Carlisle match in the Capital One Cup – even though he couldn’t believe it for a second – and his reaction is just priceless.
Jack and his dad were lucky enough to be seated at the end Liverpool went on to clinch the nerve-jangling tie on penalties and, thankfully, despite the side’s best efforts to continue their bad run, his first trip over was a memorable one.
Sean O’Dea was happy with the result and for his son’s first trip to be successful but, as an avid Liverpool fan himself, he feels that Brendan Rodgers’ time at the club could be up.
“I think his signings aren’t playing up to scratch,” he told SportsJOE. “He’s been badly hit by injuries at the start of this season to important players but a large section of the fans don’t rate him anymore I’m afraid. Time for a change I think.”
