Liverpool’s trip to AFC Wimbledon has already evoked plenty of memories of the 1988 Cup final between the sides, and an excuse to dust off the ageing members of the Crazy Gang for TV appearances.
In a previous existence, then First Division Wimbledon shocked double chasing Liverpool at Wembley thanks to a goal by Lawrie Sanchez. The game was more memorable, though, for the penalty save by Dave Beasant from Republic of Ireland striker John Aldridge.
The pair met up ahead of tonight’s game to reminisce about that day and, more importantly, recreate the famous penalty.
