Video: It looks like Sunderland FC have been hit by Six Nations fever

Awful scrum technique

Ben Kiely

It doesn’t look like John O’Shea’s done enough to get a call up off Joe Schmidt.

Sunderland have uploaded a video to their official YouTube channel showing the squad engaging in a really unusual training drill. The players can be seen playing some sort of a tag rugby-football hybrid with rules that are extremely difficult to keep track of.

Gus Poyet’s men kicked off the training session with a scrum so poor, that would make Cian Healy himself vomit with rage and continued from there.

While it did look like a hell of a lot of fun, it’s difficult to see any of these players making the switch to the oval-balled game any time soon. Although, if John O’Shea managed to win a rugby World Cup after his incredible equaliser against the world champions in football last year, he might legitimately be able to run for taoiseach in the near future.
