They are the surprise story of the Euro 2016 qualifiers so far
Iceland have become the smallest European country to qualify for a major finals after booking their place in next summer’s European Championships for the first time last night.
The island nation of just 329,100 people became the third country to seal a place at the finals thanks to a 0-0 draw at home to Kazakhstan, just the second time they have dropped points in a group featuring Holland, Turkey and the Czech Republic, who also qualified after beating Latvia 2-1.
And the delighted Iceland players stayed on the pitch to share a wonderful moment of celebration with their fans in Reykjavik.
They then headed into town where they partied the night away with supporters…
