This has to be true, you just couldn’t make it up.
Paul Gascoigne was a guest on BT Sport’s Fletch & Sav this morning and was in good form, recounting numerous tales from his very eventful career.
Gazza revealed he’s on the mend after battling alcohol addiction, that he once lent former teammate Gary Lineker a tenner (an event that surely deserves a feature length film) and his joy at fulfilling his dream of playing for England.
Oh, and he also told the story about that time he fell off White Hart Lane chasing pigeons.
That’s right, Gazza… fell off a stadium roof… chasing pigeons.
The former Spurs player said he arrived at the club, for ‘a pint of milk’, and kindly offered to help a member of the ground staff clear a pigeon from the White Hart Lane roof. Gazza climbed up, chased the pigeon away but managed to fall ’30 feet’ down to the ground.
Gascoigne said he was left with a large bruise down the side of his body and told Terry Venables he wouldn’t be able to train that day because of it. When the Spurs manager asked him what happened, Gazza told him ‘a pigeon did it’.
You really couldn’t make it up.
