Video: Flamengo score match-winning goal thanks to bizarre rain-assist

Rain, rain, go away. Come on as a sub another game.

This odd clip comes from the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A clash between Flamengo and everyone’s favourite football named after a 15th Century Portuguese explorer, Vasco da Gama.

Alecsandro bagged the two goals that claimed a 2-1 victory for Flamengo in the Maracana on Sunday, including one that was set up nicely by the rain.

A deluge washed out the ground in Rio de Janeiro and the game inexplicably carried on despite the unplayable conditions. When the Vasco goalkeeper threw the ball out to a defender, a pool of rainwater made a brilliant interception and laid it off to Alecsandro to run in and smash it into the net.

We’re really hoping that Martin O’Neill is keeping an eye on the rain’s form for the rest of the season. If it keeps racking up assists, surely an Ireland call-up is on the cards. If not, there’s a lot of hype around its relative wind.
