We never thought we’d see the day…
Wayne Rooney was wearing Everton blue again today, togging out for his former side for the first time since his £26million move to Manchester United in 2004.
The Toffees academy product lined out for the Merseysiders against Villarreal in the testimonial match for former team-mate Duncan Ferguson, who hung up his boots in 2006 and is now on the Everton coaching staff.

Rooney started the game on the bench but was warmly welcomed by the Goodison Park faithful.
