VIDEO: Darren Randolph was taken out before Anthony Martial equaliser

No chance of saving it

Howard Webb believes Manchester United’s equaliser against West Ham should not have stood due to a foul on Darren Randolph.

Anthony Martial forced a quarter final replay in the second half with his close range effort. The Frenchman’s goal brought the scoreline level after Dimitri Payet’s sensational free kick fired the Hammers ahead.

However, replays show that Darren Randolph wasn’t given much of a chance to save Martial’s shot as he was taken out by Bastian Schweinsteiger on the goal line. The German midfielder accidentally nudged into the shot-stopper forcing him into his own net. By the time the shot reached him, he was already over the line.

Premier League referee Howard Webb was in the BT Sport studio and he believes the goal should not have stood and a free kick should have been awarded instead. Slaven Bilic agreed with this sentiment in his post-match interview, although he didn’t blame the referee as it was a difficult incident to see.

Louis van Gaal said after the game that he believes it was West Ham’s Valencia who shoved Schweinsteiger into Randolph.
