Their captain and talisman Cristiano Ronaldo’s involvement in the final was cut short after he was forced off with a knee injury after 25 minutes. However, the resilient side did not relent and heroically defended every France attack before grinding out the win as the game looked like it was heading to penalties.

A video has emerged from the Stade de France of Cristiano Ronaldo being congratulated by his former boss at Manchester United Sir Alex Ferguson after Portugal lifted the European Championship trophy.
As the players made the walk down the stairs, the retired manager was waiting to greet the victors. When Ronaldo came down, the pair shared a bit of a moment as Fergie congratulated him on his momentous achievement.
