Manchester United’s Nani, (yeah he’s still actually a United player), may have started a goal celebration trend.
The Portuguese winger, currently on loan at Sporting Lisbon, burst into tears after scoring a cracking goal last weekend.
Why? Well, no-one’s quite sure. Nani has been scoring goals back at his old club and seems to have revived his career, after a dismal final few seasons at Old Trafford. So, maybe he’s just a bit of a cry baby.
But the real issue is not why Nani cried after scoring his goal, it’s that he may have started a new celebration trend
Less than a week later, Jorge Henrique has gone full-Nani, crying after scoring for Brazilian side Internacional and having to be comforted by his team-mates.
The striker slotted away his first goal in six months last night in the 3-1 win over Universidad de Chile in the Copa Libertadores.
Henrique had lost his place in the team and it appears six months of frustration got the better of him. The striker was consoled by a team-mate who looks a bit like like United defender Luke Shaw. Foreshadowing a potential scene at Old Trafford next season, if Nani returns.
Is the ‘burst into tears celebration’ about to become a trend? It’s probably too early to say. But if Roberto Soldado scores the winner in the League Cup final against Chelsea tomorrow, expect to see it again.
And you know to blame if he does.
