Just when you thought you had returned to something resembling emotional stability, RTÉ pull this one out of the bag.
The highlight of Robbie Brady’s life has been on constant repeat in the minds of Irish fans ever since the Dubliner nodded the ball beyond Salvatore Sirigu and into the back of the Italian net.
It’s been just about 24 hours ago, at the time of writing, that the first half of the Republic of Ireland’s now-historic clash with Italy drew to a close.
Just one day ago, we weren’t to know what joy little Robbie Brady would deliver to us at the very death.
Guttural roars echoed, fists clenched and tears pooled but, 24 hours later, we’ve started to return to a little bit of normality.
Then we were hit with this tear-jerking interview with Brady’s little sister, Amber, who explained how proud she was of her older brother for keeping Ireland’s European caper going.
“I’m so proud of you,” Amber said, when asked what she’d say to Robbie when she next saw him. “I love you and just keep it up and try to just keep going!”
Oh this? There’s just something in my eye!
