Then, Pierluigi Collina – one of football’s finest ever referees – makes his way onto the surface, kitted out, whistle in hand ready for the pre-match formalities.
Turkish MasterCard pulled an absolutely brilliant stunt by giving 12 unassuming recreational footballers the full Champions League treatment as the tournament prepares to return for its latter stages next week. The players are shocked at first – some even visibly frightened – but as it sinks in, you can see the excitement etched on their faces.
