VIDEO: Alexis Sanchez wins Copa America for Chile with cheeky panenka penalty as Higuain blazes over

Fair play

The game was a big pile of sh*te. The penalties, however, very welcome.

Poor Gonzalo Higuain.

He was brought on for Sergio Aguero and, well, it’s not too harsh to say that he completely blew it.

First off, he missed an injury time sitter that would’ve won Argentina their first Copa America in 22 years.

Then, he hit his penalty so far over the bar that Croke Park’s hawk-eye wouldn’t caught it.

Okay, his wasn’t the decisive one and Ever Banega missed one too but, God, it was a bad night for Higuain.

For Chile, though, the stuff dreams are made of.

Their national anthem before the game was absolutely, hair-raisingly spectacular – if you haven’t watched it, honestly you really should.

Then they held the World Cup finalists goalless over 120 poor enough minutes but it didn’t matter one bit when it came down to four of their players to stand tall and win the cup from 12 yards for the host country.

And none of them bottled it (although, Arturo Vidal tried his best). Alexis Sanchez stepped up and put away the winner with all the coolness of a man who had no right to be that cool in his position.

Fair play.
