WARNING: There are a lot of Spanish goalkeepers mentioned in this article.

Victor Valdes is set to sign for Manchester United after being offered a contract by the club, according to reports from Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo.

The former Barcelona number one has been training with Louis van Gaal’s side in an attempt to rehab a knee cruciate ligament injury.

And the 32-year-old  free agent has apparently impressed the United boss enough to be offered the chance to compete with David de Gea for a starting place.

Valdes will reportedly sign with the Red Devils until the end of the 2015-16 season which paves the way for current goalkeeping understudies, Anders Lindegaard and Ben Amos, to leave the club in their pursuit of first team football.

But questions will predictably rise again about the future plans of United’s first choice stopper David de Gea.

Theories have arisen that Valdes could be a stopgap for de Gea’s departure as Real Madrid look to secure the signature of the 24-year-old as a long-term replacement for their current number one, Iker Casillas.

Among all those permutations and possibilities, one thing is for certain and that’s the fact that Victor Valdes is on his way to Manchester for the next eighteen months.
