Everyone had the same thought seeing Rafael Nadal celebrate Atletico Madrid beating Arsenal

This has confused lots of people

Arsenal are out of the Europa League, beaten by Atletico Madrid.

With the score 1-1 after the first leg at The Emirates last week, a single Diego Costa goal, scored in first half stoppage time, was enough to send the Spanish side through to the final in Lyon later this month.

A disappointing night for everyone connected with Arsenal, but a historic one for Atleti, playing their first season in the Wanda Metropolitano stadium.

As the game drew to a close, the cameras covering the game focused on some of the scenes in the stands. Amongst those enjoying the final stages was Rafael Nadal, currently the world number one male tennis player.

To many watching, this came as a surprise. Despite being the nephew of Miguel Ángel Nadal, the former Barcelona defender, it was common knowledge that the tennis star was actually a supporter of Atleti’s city rivals, Real. He is even quoted as saying he would like to one day become club president at the Bernabeu at some point in the future.

The reaction to the sight of him apparently showing his support for Diego Simeone’s men was a predictable one: mainly confusion, but also a bit of betrayal from the Real Madrid faithful.
