Uefa plot to branch off from Fifa with new rival tournament

Blatter out

Uefa have hatched a plan to try to force Fifa to reform and depose Sepp Blatter.

Blatter and Fifa’s credibility has been destroyed since the arrest of seven of the body’s officials and the indictment of 18 people on £100 million worth of corruption charges in a US-led investigation,

Uefa have proposed a rival tournament in a bid to break away from Fifa and oust Blatter.

Under the plan, a European Championship would be held every two years which would allow nations from other parts of the world to compete.

Denmark’s Uefa ExCo member Allan Hansen proposed the idea at a meeting of Europe’s 54 territories last Friday. He is fully behind the association completely branching off from Fifa.

Hansen believes the scheme would be enough to take away significant sponsorship and broadcasting rights from Zurich until FIFA properly reforms itself so that UEFA feel they can take part in a global World Cup again.

The plans were discussed before Blatter, had been re-elected for a fifth term as Fifa president.
