Two Irishmen among the favourites to take over as the new Leicester manager

Why now

We were never exactly the biggest fans of Nigel Pearson, but we do find it more than odd that the now ex-Leicester manager got the boot from the club he saved from relegation last night.

The Foxes won seven of their last nine Premier league games to stay up after looking doomed at Christmas.

But last night it seems the board had had enough of the mad, bad and crazy world of Nigel and decided to give him the boot.

So of course speculation has now turned to who might get the job, and there are a number of Irishmen being linked with the position and unsurprisingly Martin O’Neill features among the possible replacements.

According to several betting websites, the current Republic of Ireland manager is either second or third favourite for the job at around odds of 8/1

O’Neill hasn’t exactly looked the happiest man in the world as Irish boss, and an escape back to the club where he made his name could be very tempting, especially as Ireland’s Euro 2016 hopes look to be up in smoke.

Bolton boss Neil Lennon is also being linked with the role while the current front runners appear to be the unemployed Sam Allardyce, and Sean Dyche at Burnley.
