Poor old Andy has lost his job and the mercilessly cruel people of Twitter are in jovial spirits about it
News broke earlier today that ITV would not be renewing Andy Townsend’s contract at the end of the season. This came after it was announced that BT Sport would be getting the exclusive broadcasting rights to all UEFA Champions League matches for the UK from the 2015/16 campaign onwards, which meant that Townsend’s services would no longer be required by the network.
As expected, the good folk on social media have bandied together to show their support at this difficult time, not for Andy but for the ITV for making the decision to axe the much-maligned pundit.
Here is all the best Twitter reaction to the news that UK viewers would no longer have to endure Townsend’s commentary for their beloved European fixtures.
Andy Townsend is leaving ITV at the end of the season. For me Clive, that is a top, top decision at this level.

ITV exec: Someone must be let go, Andy.
Townsend: It's got to be Clive for me, Clive.
ITV exec: Not Clive.
Townsend: Me?
ITV exec: Better.— Chris Smith (@cdsmith789) January 8, 2015
