Liverpool have earned an impressive 1-1 draw away at Borussia Dortmund thanks to Divock Origi’s potentially-crucial away goal.
The Belgian struck late in the first half, and while Mats Hummels equalised shortly after the break a solid defensive effort was enough for Jurgen Klopp’s side to hold off the usually free-scoring Germans.
Before the game, few were giving Liverpool much of a chance.
Who do you think will win in Germany tonight?
— SportsJOE (@SportsJOE_UK) April 7, 2016
Part of that was down to the impressive recent form of Klopp’s former employers, with the Bundesliga’s second-placed team yet to taste defeat in 2016.
But another factor was Liverpool’s surprise decision to give Origi a place in the starting line-up, with Daniel Sturridge watching on from the bench.
If Origi starts Liverpool won't score.

Dortmund could very easily have taken the lead before Origi struck, only for Mamadou Sakho to make a crucial first-half block.
Sakho may look awkward and always on the brink of stumbling over the ball, but he's an exceptional defender. #DorLiv

And the Frenchman continued his impressive performance throughout, earning plenty of plaudits.
Great showing from Sakho after his out of body experience in the 1st half vs Spurs. A big character in these games. Lovren resolute. #LFC

But plenty still expected Dortmund to eventually take control. So much so that when Origi scored…

That gave Liverpool a half-time lead, but they crucially lost Jordan Henderson to injury.
Jurgen Klopp tells BT Sport that Jordan Henderson has a knee injury that looks "not too good". Will have a scan tomorrow.

And within three minutes of the captain being withdrawn, the hosts hit back.

It got us asking the big questions.
Another night on which we're destined to ask ourselves just why British clubs cannot produce players as unerringly handsome as Mats Hummels
— Jack Lang (@jacklang) April 7, 2016
Liverpool had chances to retake the lead, but Roman Weidenfeller, 35 years young, was enjoying one of the performances of his career.

That first save from Weidenfeller

It ended 1-1, a result with which Liverpool can certainly be very happy.
Dortmund been on Bayern's toes all season.
So that's a great performance, Liverpool.

When people ask 'what difference has Klopp made to #lfc'? That performance was one Rodgers was incapable of producing as manager.
