The Spaniard cost Chelsea £50 million in January 2011 and now will leave on a free transfer.
Fernando Torres will officially leave Chelsea, joining AC Milan on January 5th after almost four years with the London club. Torres scored 45 goals in 176 games, winning an FA Cup, Europa League and Champions League, but failing to capture the form that saw him terrorise Premier League defences with Liverpool between 2007 and 2011. The news of Torres’ permanent deal with the Serie A club came as a shock. It had appeared Milan wanted rid of the player, with a move to Torres’ first club Atletico Madrid strongly mooted until the deal was announced this evening. It appears there’s still a chance Torres will return to the Spanish capital, possibly on a loan move from Milan in January.
Here’s how twitter reacted:
Whole Torres era at #cfc hard to quantify. Stats say a flop, attitude appalling, saw off 4 managers. Yet won CL and EL

I just want Torres to find peace within himself. The guy has been tormented by serious inner conflict since 2010. He deserves happiness.

@ParkedTheBus Torres was poorly managed in the first place which destroyed his whole mentality. If only mourinho was there in the 1st place

Bye Torres, nothing will highlight how much we needed a proper striker more than seeing Diego Costa play for us.

The decline in Fernando Torres is one of the great unsolved mysteries of the 21st century. No injury, not age, just play off a cliff.
