The glimmer of hope among the Old Trafford faithful that David de Gea could be swayed into staying at Manchester United has faded to an ember.
It appears that the much-discussed deal between their beloved goalkeeper and Real Madrid is in its final stages.
The Sun‘s Neil Custis tweeted out today that talks between the La Liga side and United’s Player of the Year had resulted in an agreement.
Understand United have lost the battle to keep De Gea move to Real all but done

And The Sun also claim that the Spanish stopper has already said his goodbyes to his United teammates as he prepares to return to his home city to be closer to girlfriend Edurne Garcia.
It’s understood that Real will pay around €40 million for the goalkeeper and that they have offered the 24-year-old a wage increase to around €275,000 a week although money is not thought to be a motivating factor in de Gea’s decision to leave.
It will come as heartbreaking, if not completely surprising, news to United fans who had raised their number 1 to hero status over the last two seasons.
