Diego Godin is one of about 43 defensive players on Louis van Gaal’s radar ahead of the opening of the January transfer window.

The Atletico Madrid centre-back is linked with a move to Old Trafford and it’s believed that the La Liga champions would let him go for a fee of €35million.

Godin joins Mats Hummels, Raphael Varane, Ron Vlaar and Aleksandar Dragovic on van Gaal’s scouting list. The Daily Mail

David Moyes wants to make Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam his first signing as manager of Real Sociedad according to Fichajes.

Adam has fallen down the pecking order at the Britannia Stadium this season as manager Mark Hughes has looked to change the team’s style of play to be less physical.

And it seems that fellow Scotsman Moyes is keen on the former Liverpool man, who is out of contract in 2016, and is willing to offer Adam first team football.

Moyes, who took over at Anoeta stadium last month and recorded his first win for the Basque club on Friday thanks to a Carlos Vela hat-trick, is thought to be hopeful of a loan move for 28-year-old Adam until the end of the season.

Arsenal have been warned that Celtic are not willing to part company with defender Virgil van Dijk on the cheap.

Arsene Wenger has been keen on a move for the 23-year-old after he helped Celtic win the league last year but Hoops boss Ronny Deila has remained adamant that the Dutchman will only move for a significant fee.

He said: “It will not be a surprise for me if there is interest in Van Dijk in January, but he will be very expensive.

“Van Dijk is a fantastic player who keeps on improving and I hope he stays with us.” Talksport

Chelsea are keen on allowing Mohamed Salah join another Premier League club on loan in January, with Everton favourites to sign the Egyptian.

Roberto Martinez is keen on the 22-year-old but, because Everton already have Chelsea’s Christian Atsu on loan, they will not be able to sign Salah without sending Atsu back to Stamford Bridge next month.

If the deal with Everton does not come to fruition, it’s understood that Stoke, QPR and Sunderland are also interested in the player who will not be forced to miss out on domestic action due to the African Cup of Nations as Egypt failed to qualify. The Daily Mirror

Chelsea v Arsenal - Premier League

Frank Lampard will have an even greater interest in Manchester City’s crucial Champions League clash with Roma as the result of the game will decide the future of the midfielder at the Etihad.

Lampard, who netted his fifth goal in eleven appearances for City against Southampton, is expected to begin training with parent club New York City FC next month but it is believed that an understanding is in place to delay that beyond February should the former Chelsea player be required by Manchester City.

The only way that Lampard, 36,  would be further required by the Premier League champions is if City continue with their European campaign which would be halted with a defeat in Rome.

Victory in Rome, though, would lead to City’s desire to extend Lampard’s loan deal to provide cover for Yaya Toure who will be on African Cup of Nations duty until late February. The Telegraph
