Transfers: Jose Mourinho asked about Paul Pogba and Liverpool closing in on German

How much closer can someone get to signing a player?

It seems Manchester United have been nearing closer and closer to Paul Pogba, so much so that they surely must’ve passed ways by now.

The Frenchman is on the verge of an Old Trafford return and, once again, news this Thursday morning is that the deal is closer than it was yesterday. No-one really knew where exactly it was yesterday or where exactly it is today but it is closer.

Plus he’s doing MMA now so I think we all know what that means.

After Wayne Rooney’s testimonial on Wednesday night, United manager Jose Mourinho was forced to talk about the midfielder but he did admit that they’ll definitely be making a signing before the window is shut. The transfer window, that is.

“We are going to sign one more player, that’s for sure,” the boss admitted. “I don’t want to speak about Paul because he’s a Juventus player and I don’t like other managers speaking about my players.

“I don’t speak about their players but the reality is we are going to sign one more player.

“The market closes as you know on Aug 31 so we have plenty of time to do that but obviously I would like to do it before the Premier League starts.”

If Liverpool thought their luck was in with West Ham making a bid for Christian Benteke earlier in the summer, well now it appears that BOTH Everton AND Sunderland are after the Belgian. Jurgen Klopp – or the transfer committee, whoever the hell is in charge – are said to have rejected a sizable bid from the Hammers last month but their madness may be rewarded as David Moyes battles with Ronaldo Koeman to take the once deadly striker from Anfield. (Daily Mirror)

Liverpool meanwhile are looking for an upgrade on Albert Moreno, which doesn’t exactly say too much for Jonas Hector. But the German left back is being chased by his compatriot Jurgen Klopp and, according to The Sun (I know, sorry), they’re prepared to offer FC Koln £20m for his services.  Not that people would miss the Spaniard too much.

Arsenal might actually spend some money too. Maybe. We’ll see. The Daily Star are reporting that Arsene Wenger is willing to part with £50m to bring the 22-year-old talent of Julian Draxler to the Emirates.

Arsene Wenger?

Okay.
