Transfers: Are Manchester City about to step in and scupper United’s Gundogan move?

Dortmund midfielder in high demand

United fans may need to return those Gundogan jerseys

Reports suggested it was a done deal but Manchester United may face some stiff opposition to their proposed summer signing of Borussia Dortmund star Ilkay Gundogan. Derby rivals Manchester City have stuck their blue noses into the picture and with new Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel a big fan of City striker Edin Dzeko, the German club may prefer to deal with the men from Abu Dhabi. (Daily Star Sunday)

Another striker almost certain to leave Manchester is Stefan Jovetic, with both Liverpool and Inter Milan eyeing up cut-price moves for the Montenegro forward, who cost City £22million just two years ago. Inter want to bring the forward in on loan with a £12million option to buy, while Liverpool want Jovetic to join James Milner in wandering up the M62 to Anfield. Brendan Rodgers is promising a big signing he can rely on to ‘play every game’ up front, but Jovetic is hardly that man, is he? (Mail, Daily Star)

Burnley v Manchester City - Premier League

Republic of Ireland target Patrick Bamford has been clear in his ambition to win a place in the Chelsea team next season, but the 21-year-old will have plenty of other options in the Premier League if Jose Mourinho isn’t playing ball. Bamford has been banging in the goals for Middlesbrough this season and Southampton have already made it clear that they would welcome the Championship player of the year at St Mary’s next season.(ESPN)

Arsenal like them young and they like them French, so it’s no surprise Arsene Wenger is sniffing around 21-year-old Lyon midfielder Nabil Fekir. Already capped twice by Didier Deschamps, Fekir is viewed as one of Ligue 1’s top prospects and would cost the Gunners at least £15million (Mirror)

Alan Pardew couldn’t wait to get out of Newcastle and he looks set to offer some old friends the same exit route this summer. Top of his list is Moussa Sissoko, but the midfielder is likely to be the target of bigger clubs than Palace, so a more likely capture would be striker Papiss Cisse, who Pardew brought to the north east for £9.3million in 2012.
