Transfer talk: Manchester United’s cunning plan to pay for Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin

Makes sense

The medicals are complete, the deals should be finalised today.

Manchester United should be able to unveil Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin before setting off on their pre-season jamboree.

Respectively, the midfielders are reported to be costing United £14.4m and £25m.

The club are not exactly in a financial fix but Louis van Gaal has spied an opportunity to pay for his new arrivals and shift an under-performing star on.

RMC Sport, in France, are reporting that PSG will tie up a £47m (€65m) deal for Angel di Maria. The Argentine had a bright start to his United career but poor form, injuries, being unsettled and a robbery at his Manchester house all combined to make his 2014/15 forgettable.

If PSG can come close to his huge wage demands (€12.5m a year), they will have themselves a top player.

Liverpool v Blackburn Rovers - FA Cup Quarter Final

QPR will pocket more than £9m from the Raheem Sterling move to Manchester City. It was previously reported that the Championship side, who let Sterling go for £500,000 five years ago, had a 10% sell-on clause in his contract. The clause, as it transpires, is 20%. [Daily Mail]

City are not satisfied at prising Sterling from Liverpool. Manuel Pellgrini’s side still believe they can snatch Paul Pogba from Juventus, and fellow suitors Barcelona.

Two stumbling blocks exist – Pogba’s image rights [and how much he controls] and the fact that he has to request a transfer from Juve. A long way off yet. [Daily Star]

Back up the road to United and van Gaal wants this whole David de Gea rigmarole sorted once and for all. The Dutchman is determined to hang onto his goalkeeper but, if de Gea is set on leaving, wants Real Madrid to stump up the cash before United go on their summer tour to America. [The Sun]

Barcelona v Real Madrid - UEFA Champions League Semi Final

Last week, we reported that Arsenal were favourites to snap up Pedro. Now, according to Spanish newspaper Sport, the 27-year-old Barcelona and Spain midfielder is on his way to Chelsea.

That will, no doubt, soothe relations between Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger.

Wenger will plough on, regardless, with loaning out the potentially promising (copyright) Yaya Sanogo to Ajax for a season.

Southampton, last but not leastly, will bring in Dutch midfielder Jordy Clasie to replace Mr £25m, Schneiderlin. [De Telegraaf]
